The Scoutmaster is the adult leader responsible for overseeing every aspect of the Troop. He is the primary adult leader that interacts with the Scouts. Like the youth leaders, the Scoutmaster attends frequent training sessions to keep abreast of BSA policies and guidelines. The SM works closely with the SPL, ASPL, and Troop Guides and provides the necessary assistance and training that ensures that they serve the Troop in a meaningful way. The Assistant Scoutmasters provide much needed assistance with the Scoutmaster and his duties in guiding the youth leaders of the Troop. Most importantly, the ASM’s have a primary focus over one Patrol. This does not mean that this is their only focus, as each ASM provides guidance to the entire Troop. The idea is that as each Patrol gains more experience, the ASM begins to fade into the background allowing the members of the Patrol and the Patrol leadership to grow. Troop 150 recognizes the seriousness of food borne illnesses. To prevent such illnesses, one of the parents from the Troop serves as the Food Safety Officer (FSO) during each outing where the Troop or Patrols prepare and store food. His role is to provide one-on-one guidance to the Grubmaster for that particular outing. Generally, the FSO is the parent of the Grubmaster; however, there are occasions where the Grubmaster’s parent is unable to attend an activity and another adult steps up to ensure that each Scout has the opportunity to serve as Grubmaster. The FSO is not an official position recognized by the Boy Scouts of America. The Troop Committee provides all of the logistical support and assists the Troop by providing planning support for activities and outings. In Troop 150 we encourage every family to have at least one parent that is registered with the BSA as a Committee Member. Our Scoutmaster has observed that we have one of the strongest Troop Committees. The Troop Committee supports the SM by taking on nearly all of the administrative duties leaving him free to focus on the Scouts in the Troop. The Troop Committee is headed up by a Troop Committee Chairman. The Troop Committee has a Treasurer, Secretary, Advancements Chair, Fundraising Coordinator, Outdoors and Activities Coordinator, Health & Safety Coordinator, Training Coordinator, Roundtable Commissioner, Unit Commissioner, and the Chartering Organization Representative. The other members of the Troop Committee take on various tasks to ensure the smooth operation of the Troop’s business. Troop 150 is chartered by Green Hill Presbyterian Church (GHPC), and Pastor Dan is the Chartering Organization Commissioner. Ron Seery is the Chartering Organization Representative and serves as the liaison between GHPC and the Troop Committee. The Chartering Organization makes the final determination on who fills each of the adult leadership positions within the Troop. Generally, the Chartering Organization Representative is very active with the Troop Committee. Mr. Seery takes this a step further and remains very active with the Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmasters. It is the close relationship between the SM, ASM, TCC, the TC, and the COR, that makes Troop 150 successful. The strong support of the GHPC congregation is another major factor that makes it possible to offer such a high quality program to the youth in our community.
